To Doppler or Not to Doppler?
Okay, this has been weighing on my mind for some time now. I have been debating whether or not to get a doppler. I want to get one because I am obviously a worrier and I feel like it might just help me feel a little more relaxed. I feel like if I could hear the baby's heartbeat I would know everything is okay. But then on the other hand I am afraid it will make me worry more. I am worried that because I am a chubby girl that I wont be able to pick up the h/b because there will be too much chub in the way. Then that will make me worry more. So, I am looking for advice. I know ultimately the decision is mine and what ever I feel comfortable with, but I'm not sure yet so I need your help. What would you do/did you do? Does anyone who has a little chub on the belly have problems picking up the h/b or were you able to hear it just fine? If you use a doppler what kind do you use? Help ladies!!

Sorry, no advice/assvice - but I chose not to get one. I guuess because I was too worried I wouldn't find the heartbeats and then freak out all the time. Good luck in your decision!! As long as you're not a huge worrier, I bet they would be fun! There were many times I wished I could have heard the heartbeats early on.
I'm sorry that I'm no help at all. I decided not to doppler since I'm such a worry wart as is. Hope someone who has used one though has some good input for you though :-)
I loved, loved, loved having mine. I kept it well into the 2nd trimester, I think I sent it back around 24 weeks or so, when movement got really regular. I will have to say that I got it at 10-11 weeks and had a really hard time picking it up (definitely some belly chub on me). By 13 weeks I could pretty much always find it within a minute or two.
There are some definite tricks to finding it, go lower than you think (about a finger length below your belly buttom, use lots of the lube, press hard, and it was usually easier with a full bladder). Once it got to the point I could find it quickly I kept it by my bed and would listen most nights before going to sleep. It was conforting when there'd be those random, scary but supposedly normal cramps, etc.
I do understand those people who don't get one for fear of driving themselves crazy, I was a bit neurotic the first week or two with it.
Good luck with whatever you decide! (and sorry for the crazy long comment)
go with your gut. I chose not to get one - I have trust/worry issues and I decided not to get one to help increase my faith and trust. You need to do whatever is going to be the absolute best for you
Dopplers are sensitive enough (even the consumer type) to work regardless of your body composition aka "chub". BTW, I thought you looked absolutely beautiful in your pix from the zoo. I vote with Fertilized and trust your gut. If it will bring you peace of mind, go for it; if it will make you more crazed, Fuhgeddaboutit!
I just got my doppler today and I blogged about it. So go check out my blog for my little run down about it! :)
I've listened to the heartbeat like 18 times today. I love it.
I rented one when I was pregnant. I didn't use it very often, but it provided great peace of mind the few times I thought I wasn't feeling baby brother move.
I'm also dealing with chub, and I don't think it posed any problems.
Anyway, thats my experience for what its worth.
I didn't get a doppler, although dh and I did discuss it. I wanted one because I'm a worrier too, but I didn't have the money due to hubbies broken foot. I don't really have any advice because I never got one and now that I can feel the baby move, that's all the proof I need. I think I would have been obsessed with listening hehe.
Good luck!
I wouldn't get one. If you must hear the baby's heartbeat please just rent one. There are so many companies online that rent them. Whatever you do don't buy the cheap things from BeBe sounds that don't work.
I hope you come to a decision that you feel comfortable with!! I'm not pg yet, but I do think I would really want a doppler, even though it can cause more stress, I just think it would alleviate more than it would cause.
